SENIOR
DRAMATICS

"You mean to say YOU ATE BREAKFAST with MR. McNEAL!?" the
incredulous voice of Amy Hughes asked. Yes sir, March 11 was a night
for fun and laughter! Of course you guessed it! That was the
night the class of '47 presented its play, "The Life of the Party."
Before a really astounding audience our senior players acted out the
hilarious, involved problems of the Hughes family, newly moved to Butterfield.
We followed them through to the end, almost not realizing that the actors
were our friends, and not the Hughes, the presentation was so well done.
Every part seemed to be fitted perfectly, and very good emotion and
expression was apparent. By and large the great success of "The
Life of the Party" is due Mrs. Kelly, our dramatic coach, for the
many long hours she devoted to a really gala production. Here the class
of '47 wishes to express its deepest and most sincere thanks for that
labor and invaluable help. The Production Staff also merits very special
credit.

TRI-HI-Y
Tri-Hi-Y is a Christian organization of high school girls whose purpose
is to create, maintain, and extend throughout the school and community
high standards of Christian character. This year our Tri-Hi-Y has been
very active it has begun a new project, that of having football
programs printed for all our home games. Also, living up to its name
as a service club, it prepared Thanksgiving baskets, Red Cross Overseas
boxes, led in assembly devotions, presented a play as a means of raising
money to prepare gift boxes, and aided in entertaining the Florida Hi-Y
- Tri-HiY Congress, which was held in Orlando and Winter Park in Decmeber,
1946. Shirley Jacobs, a member of the Winter Park chapter, was honored
by being elected the state secretary of the Tri-Hi-Y for 1947. The main
aim of this year was to build a stronger and more active Tri-Hi-Y than
our school has ever had. Also, it has strived to be of greater service,
not only to its members, but to our school, homes, community, church,
and our God.

STUDENT
COUNCIL

This year's Student Council has initiated several new projects. For
the first time we sent three representatives to the Southern Association
of Student Government's convention held in St. Petersburg. A "courtesy
week" was held, during which all students were asked to display
their very best manners. Information was gathered concerning a handbook
for our school. A committee was established for the purpose of working
out a plan whereby our school might have a "W" Club. Membership
in this club is based upon grades, leadership, and participation in
school activities. These, among other things, show the growth of our
council into an efficient governing body.

CLUB

Membership in the Key Club is limited to two-thirds of the male members
from the upper three classes. The membership quota is limited to twenty-one
boys, seven from each of the upper three grades. Key Club offers a
means whereby boys in the upper three grades may engage in comprehensive,
practical, self-training for adulthood. This year the Key Club succeeded
in
instituting a flag-raising ceremony each school morning, campaigned
to try to keep buildings clean, erected a football score board at
the football field, and gave a very successful dance.

GLEE
CLUB

One of the highlights of the school's extra-curricular activities
is the Glee Club's participation in programs. This year the Glee Club
sang for the P.T.A. reception,
beginning the school year; for a Woman's Club program; and participated
jointly with the band in a program for the P.T.A. The Club attended
the district festival at Deland at which it was to be decided whether
the Glee Club would
go to the State Festival in Tampa. This trip was financed
by the minstrel, "Laff-a-Log." All in all, the Glee Club
had
a very full and enjoyable year.

JOURNALISM
It just wouldn't work! At the beginning of each week we faithfully
promised our editor to have everything completed by a certain deadline,
so our paper, the "Wi-Pa'Hi-Sc" could be run off smoothly,
quickly, and efficiently. Each time at the deadline we were further
behind than before, and confusion still reigned. Finally, in desparation,
we decided to let it work out for itself. Why have all the rustle
and bustle to meet a deadline? Why not just have fun? So... we stayed
late on the nights the paper came out, listened to the radio, and
ate hamburgers as we worked!
This year we have introduced many new ideas to the
"Wi-Pa-Hi-Sc" in an effort to improve it. Our efforts have
not been in vain, for the paper is becoming bigger and better each
year. In spite of the trials and tribulations of newspaper work, we
have had fun, and we hope that the classes to come will have as much
enjoyment and happiness as we did!
