The Winter Park Wildcats under the leadership of two new coaches, Mr. Miller and Mr. Jones, had the most successful season in five years. Three Wildcats, Joe O'Steen, Scotty Witherell, and Lyle Chambers, were placed on the Central Florida All-Conference team.

The Wildcats, true to form, dropped their first game, a 7-0 heartbreaker, to Groveland. They then stormed back to defeat Seabreeze, St. Cloud, Apopka, Kissimmee, Umatilla, Winter Garden and Titusville. In one of the most bitterly contested games of the season, Sanford steam-rolled Winter Park 28-13 before a homecoming crowd of almost 7,000 people.

Sharing top scoring honors were Joe O'Steen and Ted Elliott. A good share of the touchdowns went to ends Scotty Witherell and Duard Thames.

The Wildcats were fortunate as far as injuries were concerned. Star guard, Buddy Reich, who suffered a concussion in the Seabreeze game, was the only member seriously injured. Joe O'Steen suffered a shoulder injury, Pete Brown incurred a rib accident, and Charles Holmes was the victim of an arm injury.

All in all, everyone will heartily agree that the 1946 season was one of the best in the history of the Wildcat annals.

This year W.P.H.S.'s baseball team presented an outstanding season, winning every game played, and also bringing home the championship trophy from the District V contest held at Leesburg in May. After capturing this prize, they proceeded to the state tournament in Lakeland, there they were defeated only by Fort Lauderdale. Special credit is due Pete Brown and Joe O'Steen, our star pitchers of the year, for their splendid work in helping capture so many victories this season, and to Coach Hugo Miller for his fine coaching in putting out such an outstanding team.
